Las Vegas Raiders Receive Big QB Prediction Ahead Of 2024 NFL Season
Jamie Sabau-USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Raiders are in an interesting situation at the quarterback position heading into the 2024 NFL season. Aidan O’Connell is returning as the projected starter, but the team did go out and sign veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew in free agency.

At this point in time, it appears that O’Connell will be given the first crack at winning the starting job. Antonio Pierce has been very vocal about his support for his young quarterback. However, he is far from guaranteed to win the starting job at this point in time.

Some believe that Minshew will end up winning the starting job.

Las Vegas Raiders Receive Big QB Prediction Ahead Of 2024 NFL Season

Gregg Rosenthal from “Around the NFL Podcast” recently shared his opinion on the Raiders’ quarterback situation. He thinks Minshew will end up winning the starting job when everything is said and done.

“It was surprising to hear Antonio Pierce say second-year pro Aidan O’Connell will get the first snaps of the offseason at quarterback. O’Connell was promising as a fourth-round rookie (better than No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young!), but the money speaks louder here, no? The team gave Gardner Minshew $15 million fully guaranteed on a two-year deal.”

While his opinion about Minshew making more money makes sense, the Las Vegas Raiders are going to pick the quarterback that gives them the best chance to win. Pierce wants to win this season and no form of politics will be allowed in the decisions he makes.

Minshew did put together a good season with the Indianapolis Colts last season following the season-ending injury to Anthony Richardson. His performance landed him a spot in the Pro Bowl.

It will be interesting to see what the Las Vegas Raiders end up doing at quarterback. O’Connell is young and has shown flashes of starting potential, but Minshew is a proven veteran who is coming off of a good season. The competition is very much alive and the start job will be decided during training camp and preseason action.

Pierce and company have their work cut out for them getting the Raiders back into playoff contention. Thankfully, they’re building the right way and have a lot of pieces that should help them contend in 2024.
